The practice was started in 1953 by Dr. Douglas Blair from a terraced house at 114 High Street, Holywood.  Larger premises at 126 High Street were used from 1959 until the move to the current, purpose-built premises in January, 1992.

The practice developed a branch surgery in Bangor West in 1954, initially on the Crawfordsburn Road, then, at 2 Rathmore Road, until the Springhill Surgery was opened in January, 1991.

Over the years the practice has grown considerably and there are now 7 partners supported by some 30 staff providing services to around 15,400 patients.
